Since October 21, 2026 the Commission has been asking for views, until January 13, 2027, on whether the EU should set targets and requirements for biobased feedstock in plastic packaging. The PPWR requires it to review biobased plastic packaging by February 12, 2028 and, where appropriate, to propose legislation (Art. 8), and its register lists this initiative as a proposal for a regulation with adoption planned for the third quarter of 2027. Nothing binds producers yet. If you use or plan to use biobased plastics, you can respond to the public consultation.
