At the June 30, 2026 plenary session of the Plan plastique consultation, France's ecology minister stated that a deposit for recycling will be mandatory from January 1, 2029, citing a 58.4 percent beverage container collection rate in 2024 against a 90 percent goal. Local authority associations and NGOs walked out, and the Senate committee had formally opposed the measure on May 19, 2026, so the delivery route is contested, but the date is on the record and corroborated in a Senate written question of May 28, 2026.
